......Samsun is a city with numerous tourism possibilities. You may benefit from the healthy water of spas, you may enjoy camp life on the green plateaus, or you may spend some time at the seaside. Samsun also has touristic opportunities such as conference tourism, trekking, bird watching, and fishing.


......Plateaus:
......The extensive plateaus situated in the foothills of the Akdağ and Nebiyan Mountains offer an interesting way of life in plateau houses. Particularly the Akdağ Plateau has services for both domestic and foreign tourists.


......Mountains:

......The mountains in the Samsun province include Mt. Bünyan, Mt. Sırçalı, Yurt mountains and Akdağ range with its highest peak, Mt.Akdağ at 2,062 m.


......Rivers:
......The two largest rivers of our country, the Kızılırmak and the Yeşilırmak, pass through the provincial borders of Samsun. Four dams are situated on these rivers irrigating the fertile fields in the Çarşamba and Bafra Plains.


......Lakes:
......A large number of lakes are formed in the empty abysses situated on both sides of the Kızılırmak River passing through the Bafra Plain. These areas include the forests where natural beauties are abundant. Balık Gölü (Fish Lake) and Liman Gölü (Pier Lake) have an economical importance in terms of their aquatic products. In Lake Ladik, you may go fishing for sea trout, pike, and woodfish which are specific for this lake. Add a beautiful experience to your life by watching the sunrise and sunset at the lake. Lakes Lemenlik and Akgöl are also convenient places for fishing.


......The Kızılırmak Delta:
......The Kızılırmak Delta is the largest and most significant wetland area of Turkey which has been able to protect its natural beauties on the Black Sea Cosat. A delta plain of 56.000 hectares extend through the area at the north of the Samsun-Sinop highway. The wetland area of about 12.000 hectares consists of lakes, beds of reeds and cattails, sand dunes, and wet pastures on the eastern side of the delta. In the west, it includes the 1.500-hectare Lake Karaboğaz and marshes. The ecological system of the delta is extremely rich in terms of its biological variety as well as its fauna number of species of birds identified through a scientific study. The number of species of birds identified up to now is 318. About 100.000 birds from 140 species winter in the Kızılırmak Delta giving it international ornithological importance.


......Tourism Possibilities in the Delta:
......The Yörükler Model Forest, one of the rare flooded forests in Turkey is a unique choice for a picnic or trekking. Lake Çernek, located within the borders of Doğanca Village of Bafra Coutry, is excellent for bird watching in the winter and spring.


......Ornithology in the Kızılırmak Delta
......The Kızılırmak Delta with its lakes and marshes is of extremely great ornithological importance with 318 species of birds having been identified in it to date. In Turkey, there are 420 species of birds. Some species within the region are very rare and appear only occasionally. Of these species, the three-color palarope, the northern tree pipit and Anthus Hodgsoni have been identified only in the Kızılırmak Delta to date. In the last two decades, little black headed bunting (Embenza Pussila) and black headed bunting (Embeiza Plektrophenax Nivalis) have only been seen in Turkey in the Kızılırmak Delta. Some of the specis identified within the delta, whose families are endangered worldwide are the pelicanus cripus, little cormorant (Plalacrocorax pygmeus), red-nick goose (Baranta ruficollis), oxyura leucocephala, white eagle, sea eagle (Haliaaetus albicilla), and the small falcon (Falco naumanni). Among the breeding species within the region are the black stork (ciconia nigra), stork, crane, hundredsof species of herons and ducks, whimbrels, and singing passeriformes.


......Spas:
......Havza is one of the important spas of the Black Sea Region. New hotels with spas are available near the five Turkish baths consisting of old and new structures. Its water has been locally proven to have curative properties for many illnesses. The spa in Ladik County has been given the name "Waters of Youth" because of its radioactive feature.
